The following blog has spoilers for the Stephen King Book 11.22.63 this your one and only warning.

STEPHEN KING -11.22.63

The day that changed the world.

What if you could change it back ?
On November 22, 1963, Three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.
If you had the chance to change history, would you?

Would the consequesnces be worth it?

The Book so Far – Jake buys himself a car and heads further down the coast, he ends up in a town more industrial than rural, which is totally unlike the town he came in through. He begins to have second thoughts about the whole idea changing the time line. But in the end he realises he’s going to let Al down so keeps going. First he asks around but he’s told a better off looking in the phone book because Harry’s father’s name is very common.
So in the evening he goes to the bar at the hotel his booked into and talks the barman the barman tells him about a few murders that have taken place. And surnames match up so in the morning Jake decides to try and look in library.
But as he heads to library stop by two people who are dancing in the middle of the road they seem somehow more open than the people he’s already asked so over the course of an hour or two he finds out the street name of the murders and makes his way around to it and then just too he’s about to leave he finds himself face to face with a young Harry.

And now the Continuation – Part Two – The Janitor’s Father – Chapter Seven.

  1. Jake has spent 7 weeks in Derby which she comes to hate and fear it because of the sense of impending failure around the place. And he knows he can’t leave because he’s seen Harry before he becomes hop along Harry and not only that his sister is no longer just a name in a painstakingly written essay.
  2. On second day in Derby Jake goes to the market and tries to fit in trying to find Mr Dunning who turns up to have a butchery shop and look remarkably like the young janitorA very nice man always joking a very nice man with very cold as ice eyes.
  3. At a 7:15 when the market is closed for the day, Jake waits outside the market and what is Mr curry and Dunning walk to the bus stop. Jakes on the bus and few stops down feeling like an alien in science fiction flim. Dunning gets off the bus and Jake follow him,Two stops later having having seen him walk into a 3 Storey new England Victorian house with a sign hanging from the porch best price rooms by the week of the month. In America where surface had always passed the substance people always believes like Frank Dunning.
  4. Are the following Tuesday Jake rent an apartment advertised in the Derby News and considers his options.1 tell the police 2. Anonymously call the Butcher and tell him he is being watched  3.Frame the Butcher for something 4. Implicate the butchers somehow.5 Kill the butcher. Having written this down Jake tried to go to sleep.
  5. Laying in the bed Jake thinks about the list telling the police might work but as well but who would believe him if he told them about Dunning. Calling him being answer yet maybe that would change him totally make him move his plan ahead. And as for framing him Jake is a school teacher not an CIA agent. The only show where was to follow him wait until he was a long and then killing keep it nice and simple. But there was a problem with that too the biggest was just didn’t know if he could go through with it what is he went through with it and then got caught before he could escape to the future where he was Jake and not George. A new idea popped into his head one crazy Leah attractive he could station himself across the road on the Halloween night and just watch make sure it really happened and then drive back to Lisbon Falls go through the rabbit hole in the middle return to September 9th in the morning but the whole purpose of this chick had to be to find out what effect saving the janitors family would have on the future and if he let Frank goes through with the murders he wouldn’t know.
  6. Jake go and buys himself.Colt.38 police revolver special he told the clerk it was because he needed protection being a real estate man as he walk back down the street with his gun in briefcase he’s sure sees the guy who should be at work and thinks he’s being watched.
  7. That evening Jake watches Dunning and looks for the guy with no suspenders he sees running and knows he’s going home and convince himself that the guy watching him was a coincidence the following evening however done in travels down the three-way intersection of centre Kansas and witcham heading for a bar called the lamplighters Dunning goes inside. Jake thinks it’s time that he started to belong here so sad to go inside himself.
  8. Sitting down he’s accosted by a gentleman called Charles Frati who Notices that he looking back at the table they shake hands and Jake introduces himself as George. The table Dunning sat at belongs to the Tony Tracker and his brother Phil who run a freight haulage company. Chaz knows that Jake George his new and guess he’s that eating the Business of real estate.Chaz thinks that George is here to buy site from mall. Chaz goes on to say that he owns the land underneath the Kitchener Ironworks and the trackers all the rest he also knows that Frank has a drinking problem because he used to stay out late to All Hours playing poker with the guys now all he does is one drink and out the door Chaz says that him and Frank went to the same school together and he was supposed to go to University of men or you got a girl pregnant and ended up married And.2 years later she decided to leave him.Frank is the kind of guy fighting the Germans in the Jap’s would probably done him some good get it out of his system but he came up 4F. So the guy who owns the meat store before him makes him on and says if you don’t wise up I’m going to drop you so frankly seasides to Wise Up and straighten up. He divorces the first wife and settled for Doris McKinney three kids the whole bit. But Doris turns up to church with bruises on her face and three weeks later he’s out the door living in a rooming house classed as he could to the old homestead.
  9. So Jake realises is keeping notes in a small notebook is not going to work so he goes to buy a typewriter and then checks on his friend Charles.
  10. At the days slip Jake has settle into life, reading and Al’s notes he visits the library and reads about the murders and disappearances in the 1957 and 1958 looking for stories as well I Frank Dunning but found nothing. However Jake follows Dunning agian once to the Brewers market and again when picks up his kids for a day at the cinema. the following Saturday they go back to the cinema and to a football game this time Mrs Dunning makes a brief appearance when he drops the children at home, The next Jake follows Dunning to a cemetery and what is him place a basket of flowers on two graves.

What I think – Jake obviously has become running stalker so he can find the movements and stop the guy before the killings but I do think it’s a very quick fix to meet the gentleman at the lamplight who knows all about Dunning. Like I said before I have no real history of America so I’ve not sure whether some of the history lessons are correct or not and there also seems to be Mr King poking fun at himself because there is a certain prison mentioned by Jake which he doesn’t want to end up in if everything goes wrong.

well that’s your lot for this week and as always if you have been thank you for reading and see you next week for the next chapter.

Bookends – Bookreview- 11.22.63 by Stephen King – Part Two – The Janitor’s Father – Chapter Six

The Book so Far – Jake leaves the drying Shed and has violent encounter with the yellow card man, but just as before he gives him the sliver dollar, Jake gets himself a root beer and has a very similar conversation with both Junior and senior.

But there are things that are not the same a few beats are missed he then goes to the bank and deposit the money that Al has given him from find out that he still has his cell phone and a few coins from 2007 in his pockets.

He then calls a cab and travel out of town to the Countryside of Maine where he finds a hotel room for the evening but unable to sleep he goes for a walk he then throws his phone and the remain coins into a pond and return to the hotel room goes to sleep.

And now the Continuation – Part Two – The Janitor’s Father – Chapter Six

  1. Jake goes back to the Chevron dealer and by himself the 1954 convertible that was sitting in the parking lot a heads to a place called Derry happy that is until he gets there
  2. There is a cloud of pollution hanging over the whole place thanks to the many paper and textile Mills operating at full run. The car Jake’s driving is the only shade of colour in the entire place. Having forgot to buy a hat the previous day Jake goes into a haberdashery shop which like the rest of the town is very unfriendly and not very welcoming. He buys it has information about Harry running but the salesman has no information to give he then asked about a hotel. He then heads to the local bar and there were two guys looking at his convertible he asks them as well about Harry but they’re telling him looking a phone book. He feels he might as well turn the car around and got back through the rabbit hole, and leave Al High and Dry, He knows he can’t so heads up the hill and booked himself in to the hotel.
  3. Jake looks in the phone book and finds guys at the bar right Harry’s second name is extremely common in this part of town so he goes for something to eat and then tries to talk to the barman in the hotel. It turns out the folks around town are to family murders all kids round up and down The Swan patches that runs through the centre of town. But there has been one of the murder and it wasn’t some guy dressed as a funny clown that was a boy’s father so Jake ask you questions and it turns out the fire that has alibi out. It turns out there is a kid brother in his family as well he also has a hammer. Call Eddie but he disappeared last June.
  4. As Jake’s back to his room maybe he’s already changed the things by Simply being here.
  5. In the morning she goes to the restaurant and eat his breakfast and see the local paper he tries to look through the local paper trying to find the Diamonds are we can find is a pee wee football league team he then he then takes about perhaps just plug in the name into a search engine and letting Big Brother the rest but then remembered that the most up-to-date computers were the size of a small housing development so he goes to the library instead
  6. Jake begins to walk around town not really looking and not really seeing being aware of things but not really interacting with them until he hears a song, He gets to the library and is told that the census are now held at city hall and to speak to a Marcia grey and she will help him find out who is looking for.He does get to town hall and it stole all the records were wiped or destroyed in a flood so he can’t find who is looking for you are so besides it’s not good to start hanging around places as he leaves the town hall he hears the tune again and he’s correct it is a Glenn Miller tune so he walks towards the sound of the song
  7. There in a park area he watches to teenagers as they dance to the record he’s reminded to have his wife ex-wife and their six month both before and after they got married dancing in competitions he is also scared as if he is see a clockwork of the universe. They talked for awhile and Jake notices the something slightly is skew with them not like the grown ups. They seem to want to talk not shy away from him so he asks them slowly about Harry’s family I’m gets a few answers he’s even told what street they live on.After the questions he slows down the record player teachers the girl have to slow down A few of the steps.
  8. Jake leaves the children dancing down to where they told him the street while it’s a white head Lang Street old fashioned New England saltbox houses sprinklers and Lawns, the street dead ends recreational Hall which is deserted and for sale. Outside one of the houses there is a small little girl has Jake notes down the number of the house he sees the mother come out call the child in next to her is a young boy this young boy is a younger version of Harry.

What I think – As we move through the world with Jake we are getting a bit of reflected history, some things I know about something’s I don’t not being American the interesting thing is the talk with the barman which does Strike me as a bit strange we have had a bit of exposition and we know about the killings that have gone on but the guy behind the bar seems to know slightly more than he’s telling in fact it does sound like he is quoting Mr King’s previous books by mentioning a gentleman dressed as a clown killing people and other people finding a body in the river.
There is a very underlying thing in this story is if someone’s going to come out a point and beat the living out of Jake just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he sees the children Dancing In The Park some how otherworldly, I have no idea what job does has any bearing on the eventual outcome of the story or any eventual timeline but I just hope that we don’t fall into the some old trap of if he starts to change history history will make sure that he suffers.

well that’s your lot for this week and as always if you have been thank you for reading and see you next week for the next chapter.

Bookends – Bookreview- 11.22.63 by Stephen King – Part Two – The Janitor’s Father – Chapter Five

The followtog blog has spoilers for the Stephen King Book 11.22.63 this your one and only warning.

STEPHEN KING -11.22.63

The day that changed the world.

What if you could change it back ?
On November 22, 1963, Three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.
If you had the chance to change history, would you?

Would the consequesnces be worth it?

The Book so Far – Jake goes home and thinks about what Al said about saving JFK but finds himself thinking about Harry. The next day Jake takes the Harry who reads it. Al on board about changing Harry’s past and Jake thinks it will be better test.

Al then takes Jake though a Collection of items ID wallet money all the things she will need to pass Jake himself off as a person living in the 1950s. Al Puts them all into a small briefcase and then together they head to the dinner. Al tells Jake he be waiting with hot coffee when he gets back and Jake takes a step down into the pantry.

And now the Continuation – Part Two – The Janitor’s Father – Chapter Five.

  1. As Jake leaves the drying shed he knocks over the yellow card man, who Jake a few nasty things Jake tries to help the man even telling him about AA but in the end just gives him the money and leaves.
  2. Jake gets himself together and goes to get root beer this time calling himself George Amberson. Jake is surprised when some of the script doesn’t play out the same way. He has his root beer and then asks a place to stay.
  3. Jake uses the Bathroom at the Chevron dealers and then ask about buying a suitcase from the Jolly white elephant Barn that doesn’t exist in 2011.
  4. Jake leave the valleys with the guy in the Jolly white elephant barn and then head into town to sign for the US elections in the barbershop window. He makes a few jokes with the barber about voting and then has his haircut but he’s very careful not to says the word hippy the Haircut cost in 40 cent
  5. Jake deposit $1,000 in the whole town trust and is surprised only when the manager says he’s at drexel 84777.Which in fact turns out to be the gentlemans phone number.
  6. He then goes and gets the clothes out recommended at maysons menswear and his thankful that the cashier at the bank was able to make some checks for him. beatnik at the White Elephant thinks it a funny way to shop and they high five.
  7. Jake goes to a phonebooth and when looking for money to use he finds he still has his cell phone which he needs to get rid of and the money he uses just drops though the phone when he see it a 2007 coin he’s got to be more careful
  8. As he waits for his cab the owner of the car lot tries to sell Jake a car.
  9. Jake cab comes and takes him out into the countryside of Maine
  10. Unable to sleep after having nap Jake switchs on the TV but finding nothing turns it off,  He sits thinking about his six year old father and five-year old mother then takes out his phone The phone he finds comforting but is aware of the fact that is found in may not be hung for a witch but he may end up in an STI cell so he separates all the coins he has and put the new ones into a envelope and leaves the room. He crosses into a farmer’s field finds up on the phone and the coins into it then returns to his room to sleep.

What I think – I am enjoying this book very much there are some little extras, but I do have a few questions When Jake went back first time, Al took all his modern toys off him, so the thing with the phone does seem to be a little staged. The yellow card man Jake now calls him something new. I am not really sure that if he play a bigger role in the story I just hope he didn’t turn out to be one of our time traveler’s . Time getting it own back kind of thing.

STEPHEN KING -11.22.63

The day that changed the world. What if you could change it back ?
On November 22, 1963, Three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.
If you had the chance to change history, would you?

Would the consequesnces be worth it?

The Book so Far – Jake goes to see Al and tells him about wanting to change recent history the election of algo or the 9/11 tragedy in New York but I’ll points out Jake would almost be 80 years old by the time, By the time of these events occur so would he even be taken seriously

Al then says he wants Jake to save John F Kennedy and he done a lot of research and he’s a 100% sure that he was the one who lone gunman Lee Harvey Oswald in fact he even met the guy on several occasions and that Jake has the best opportunity to stop him

But Al then tells him about two people who he once tried to save a lady in a wheelchair who got accidentally shot by a stray bullet but because everything resets when you return you only get one shot and because Jake went through the hole in time the lady ended up back in her wheelchair because I’ll never told Jake exactly what to do.

And now the Continuation –  Part One –  Watershed Moment –  Chapter Four

  1. Jake helps Al into the bedroom and Al tells Jake to read the note book and come back in morning
  2. Heavy with sleep and almost drunk Scotch at home Jake thinks more and more about the girl in the wheelchair and JFK sure he can change things but would it make things better and then about Harry
  3. Jake wakes up from a bad dream with words ‘Kowabunga, Buffalo Bob in his head and Harry’s story to so he goes to find it.
  4. Jake reads the frist page of Harry’s story again
  5. Jake rings Al and tells him he wants to show him something. Al says sure and Al wants to know if he’s desired yet Jake thinks he has but wants to make another trip back before he really has
  6. Jake takes Harry story with him, and Al reads it Jake wants to stop Harry’s dad from killing. Sure Al says but will it work any better than Carolyn. Jake wants a better test Al understands and goes out of the room to get something
  7. Its a box and inside it are paper work and ID in the name of George Amberson. Al put all this stuff together when he knew me wasn’t going to make to 1963.
  8. Al and Jake going to the dinner one last time Al give Jake a fifty cent piece for the yellow card man. Whatever happens Al will be here when Jake gets back shake hands and Jake briefcase in hand walks down the steps

What I think – I like the little things Al has it all worked out the paperwork the money and even how Jake should talk, I like the fact Jake’s not been underhanded about trying to help Harry and that Al wants him to do both. How he’s going to get everything to work is another thing I am looking forward to finding out.

Hope you can join me for that, So thank you for reading and see you next week.

Bookends – Bookreview- 11.22.63 by Stephen King – Part One – Watershed Moment – Chapter Three

The Book so Far – Jake takes a few steps into Al store room and finds himself in building site the dinner has gone and everything looks like a 1950 noir flim, the frist person Jake sees is the green card man and hands over the sliver dollar, He then makes is way out of the site he’s still in the same town. So he goes into shop and finds a newspaper the date reads September 9th 1958. The man is in fact the father of a man he knows. Jake spends a few minutes looking around the main street Comparing the things that he sees to the things he knows about the town.

He finally decides to go back into the construction site and find the makers he put down and steps which let him into this world, he gets back to find that only two minutes have past and Al lets him that not only its always two minutes but each time is like the frist the people you interact with don’t remember the one seems to is the green card man. Al has something for to Jake to do but the pain is much a needs a rest so they will meet up in six hour at Al’s home.

Jake spends the hours thinking about what he saw and the feeling to go back builds.

And now the Continuation –  Part One –  Watershed Moment –  Chapter Three

    1. Jake goes to see Al who not only tells Jake he will be in hospital soon, (even if he had chemo and radiation, two doctors have told him this one in Portland and the other in Dallas 1963) but the dinner is done with to its rented space.
    2.  Jake asks Al wants going to happen to the hole when they move the dinner, Al has no idea its a freak of nature Jake thinks he knows want Al wants him to do but is not happy about it. but in the end hears the old man out.
    3. Al talks about going back 2000 and paying people to vote for Al Gore not Bush, but when it comes to history is full of watershead  moments like that they can’t stop the frist and second world wars and 9.11 Jake would have wait forty three years and be pushing eighty. But 1963 John F. Kennedy can live.
    4. Jake is afraid and needs to be convinced, so Al says just go back again and if you get stuck be the teacher you are or bet on things like he did for the four years me lived there. And then the butterfly affect who RFK be at the Ambassador all things of things that link into that one action by Lee Oswald. Jake wants to make sure that Al is right it was all one man, Al is sure and even meet the man Why not kill him then Jake asks infornt of the mans wife and child. Al has written all this down he needs Jake to cram the thing like a test. Al wants Jake to stop Oswald a year and a half before
    5. Jake’s not sure and asks long he got before the dinner is gone, until the end of the month, one more thing Al has to tell Jake is about Carolyn Poulin and Andy Cullum.
    6. Al tells Jake about the first few years of using the hole and about him carving his name in a tree and coming back it find it, knowing things can be changed he starts to look for an for accident A twentyone year old girl is hit Stray bullet from Andy Cullum gun So Al goes back with a little help from a felted tree he stops Andy Cullum returning to 2011 Al looks up Carolyn but she not in Graduation photo she in the 64 one and in 1979 she winning prizes in Albany New York. But every trip down the rabbit hole is a reset and with Jake going back it time Carolyn is back in her wheelchair.

What I Think – Al’s been trying to save everyone at the cost of his own health, after working things can changed but they are a one shot deal, as the reset kicks in everytime you come back. You stay and change everything or come back and nothing you do matters. How is Jake going wait that long in the past the save JFK.

Hope you can join me for that, So thank you for reading and see you next week.

Bookends – Bookreview- 11.22.63 by Stephen King – Part One – Watershed Moment – Chapter Two

The Book so Far – In the frist person we meet Jake Epping who is teacher, who teachs a Adult English Class, one of pupils Harry Dunning has just graduated and togehter they for a burger at place they both know a run by a man called Al Templeton.

Two years later Harry’s last day of work, Jake gets a call from Al who asks him to come when Jake gets there it becomes clear that something is wrong Al is now sick in fact dying, but Jake doesn’t believe a man because 24 hours ago he was fit and healthy,

Al wants Jake to see something the Kitchen stores, When I get there Al ask Jake to remove all the metal objects from he’s clothes and then hand him some several more bills and a silver dollar for somebody called the Yellow card man.

And the Continuation.- Part One – Watershed Moment – Chapter Two.

      1. With his eyes shut Jake takes a few into the pantry but finds himself outside in a courtyard and Al’s diner is gone.
      2. He can see Al but he can hear him, he tells Jake he can get back the same way just feel for the steps but to look around frist. Jake is still in Lisbon Falls, Maine but when
      3. Still unsure what is really going on Jake marks the steps first with paper then a rock and takes a few step into the street, almost knocking down a wino looking like his straight out a 1950 film noir it turns out be the yellow card man so Jake gives the man the half rock (sliver dollar)
      4. He leaves the man a walks out into the world, touching a Plymouth fury car is hard and warm from the sun and very very real, standing at the corner of main street and route 196, the Kennebec Fruit Company now alive selling real friut and not the faded cold shell Jake knows, after watching a bus go by and thinking want if it ran him over. and nodding at a kid looking like James Dean/early Elvis heads inside a shop the newspapers tell him its September 9th 1958
      5. He picks up a paper and meets a younger Frank Anicetti who sells him root beer, but this turns out to be the father not the son. All three of them talk frist about a story by Shirley Jackson and then about route 117 all the time Jake just enjoying the world. he finishes his root beer and asks for the greenfront which turns out to a liqour store
      6. Not wanting to push his luck because of his clothes Jake feels it better he just head back to the courtyard making his way see the yellow card man buying some liqour in courtyard once more he finds the steps and just like before almost blacksout but Al’s there to help
      7. Al that explains that every time you back that only two minutes in time here and that every time is the first time for the people there like meeting you all over agian, only the yellow card man. Al wants to talk but needs to rest and needs to go home he and Jake will talk more there later in that night
      8. Jake goes home and waits for the six hours to pass but can’t think straight and at one point even believes that Al may have hypnotised him, He does the only thing that makes sense he drives to Main street. It was as if 1958 worth still right here only hidden in film of the intervening years. What did Al show him all this for did Al want him to do something and had the cancer stop you from doing it, Jake now what’s to go back.

What I Think – So we have ourselves a time travel story which I could have guessed, but not just a stuck back in the past one and not just for the 11.22.63 is 1958 and both Jake and Al can move though time, I guessing Al spent to much time in the past so that’s why he’s really dyeing. How JFK finds into all this who knows but we shall see.

Hope you can join me for that, So thank you for reading and see you next week.

President Kennedy died, and the world changed.
If you had the chance to change history, would you?

Would the consequesnces be worth it?
Part One – Watershed Moment – Chapter One.

It would it would appear that chapter ome is split into six little sections.

          1. Harry Dunning graduated with flying colours and having no family he invites Jake Epping his teacher and after that they go for a burger at place called Al’s who take a photo of them a hangs it on the wall.
          2. Two years later Harry Is now retiring from his job as custodian at the school, when he gets a phone call from Al who asks him to come to see him
          3. When Jake gets there the welcome sign now CLOSED & WILL NOT REOPEN DUE TO ILLNESS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS OVER THE YEARS & GOD BLESS. Al lets Jake in and Al is now ill in fact he’s dying, Jake can’t understand how in less that 24 hours

What I think – Well so good it not want I expecting in fact is a very enjoyable read so far from the size of the book itslef not sure what role Harry plays in all this or why Al is now a dying man, I just going to have to carry on.

On November 22, 1963, Three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.
If you had the chance to change history, would you?

Would the consequesnces be worth it?

At the start of the book after the Publishers information and dedication pages there are five pages which don’t have a title or name. The story the starts after those pages on page nine and is  named ‘Part 1 Watershed Moment’

What these mysterious five pages have to do without tail I have no idea but I will read them anyway so here is a brief synopsis.

A man called Jake Epping who’s wife has just left him because she says he’s ‘unable to feel my feelings’ and is emotionally blocked but she wrong, once as a child he’s cried at the death of his dog. And twice as a adult the death of his mother and the second time making a adult student english paper. Titled ‘The Day That Changed My Life’

The paper is written by a man and he’s of the night when his father killed his mother, two brothers and sister, Jack makes the paper A+ and really wishes his exwife had been right about being emotionally blocked.

Like said I have no idea what if anything links the pages to the story yet or even if they do but here they are.

End Of The Book the End of Once a Crooked Man by David McCallum.

What I think – And there is was done, Mr David McCallum’s frist novel and for want it was I enjoyed it, good old fashioned caper story, which would make a good moive for a very smart audience willing to see the first guy they meet disappear halfway through the book only then to return and be shot.

And then a second guy come along, a middle age actor, whos switchs roles from James Bond to John McClane and back again in blink on an eye

Mr McCallum can write, yes he really he can, but there are three things that don’t work, his writting from memory so some of his British references sound like a 50s and 60s Black and white film and his leading lady spend a little to much time sleeping her way out of trouble, and one part which was not only pointless but morally wrong on so many levels.

And lastly his day job is leaking though a few pages I have the feeling that he may have ask one of the NCIS writers to give the proof book a quick red pen work.

If you want a good book to read on and off at bedtime or on winters day afternoon sure I encourage you to seek out this book, It good caper story and like all good books it enjoyable so all power to Mr McCallum and when NCIS is over he should write some more.
