proportional response

Roman citizens used to freely walk the known world “cloaked only in the protection of the words
‘Civis Romanus’: I am a Roman Citizen”

David Cameron has said the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government is “morally indefensible” after he recalled Parliament to discuss responses to the crisis. But any military action would have to be proportionate and legal,

So what’s the virtue of the proportional response?

Why’s it good?

What we have seen in Syria are appalling scenes of death and suffering because of the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime, I don’t believe we can let that stand. the proportional response doesn’t empty the options box for the future, the way an all out assault would.

We are behaving the way a superpower ought to behave but our behaviour has produced some pretty crappy results. In fact, I’m not a  hundred percent sure it hasn’t induced them. but is adding to the body count’s gonna act as a deterrent, no way that like saying capital punishment is going to be a deterrent for drug kingpins. As if drug kingpins didn’t live their day to day lives under the possibility of execution.

Of course it’s not good, there is no good. It’s what there is. It’s how you behave if you’re the most powerful nation in the world. It’s proportional, it’s reasonable, it’s responsible, it’s merciful
